Stonehenge
(The real one!)

To celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, we took a vacation to the United Kingdom from August 16-28, 2005. At the top of our list of things to do was to take a "special access" tour of the Stonehenge ruins. You aren't normally permitted to go inside the stone circle these days, but there are a few places that offer sunrise and sunset tours that will get you inside and up close to the stones. We booked a sunset tour on August 19th with a company called Astral Travels (now out-of-business) and we were very satisfied with them. On our way to Stonehenge, we also stopped at West Kennet Long Barrow (we got some pics of Silbury Hill from this stop too), and the great stone circle at Avebury.

We were very lucky that the rain had stopped by the time we reached these destinations, and the ground was dry. And we were even more lucky at Stonehenge that the sun actually popped out from behind the clouds to give us some very good photo opportunities. Its a shame we aren't better photographers, but we got some pretty good shots anyway. Below is just a small sample... we took LOTS of pics.
