Rob's headstone

I made headstones for about 10 years before getting a job in the steel mill, so when the time came to get a stone for Rob, it was only natural for me to check into making it myself. I went to my former employer and he was glad to let me come in and make it, for which I am very grateful. I made the stone over a couple of days (Sept. 16-17, 2005).

The stone design was sketched by my wife Deanna and then tweaked by me to be usable in the actual production of the stone. The candles primarily represent Rob's love of flames. Two candles were chosen for a number of reasons meaningful to the family. The verse is from a Metallica song and was a perfect choice to go with the design and to signify his premature death.

We placed the stone in our "family cemetery" (Vandiver Hollow Cemetery) in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Mar. 29, 2006. We also interred Rob's cremains there, except for a small amount kept (or scattered) by family and close friends. I have also added Rob's information to a place online called Find A Grave. I will be adding info there for other family members also.
